![]() ![]() Installing Piriform CCleaner and doing a full analysis/clean of programs and registry issues. Running full anti-malware scans with Bitdefender and Malwarebytes, both of which came up clean. However some things I have tried to remedy the problem include: I haven't installed any new programs or made changes to my computer around the time the issue started, which is why I'm having trouble pinpointing the root cause. Literally the only thing happening is the delay, and it happens when opening *anything* - be it Firefox, my antivirus, task manager, even my volume control. But as of this weekend, I've had this weird issue where I'll click a shortcut to launch a program, but then it won't open for about 10 seconds, then run as normal.ĭuring this delay my system performs normally otherwise - I don't get a "loading" cursor, general slowing down, error messages, noise from the PC, etc. With this in mind, normally my PC runs really well unless I'm putting heavy demands on it such as processing large graphic design files or trying to run a resource-heavy game. I have a pretty decent gaming PC which my SO built for me about 5 years ago. So I've been having a pretty frustrating issue for the last couple days, was hoping someone could help me out :) I'm not the best with computers, but I feel mighty proud that I got this fixed, haha :) After restarting my system all programs launched instantly after clicking as they did before! This is what I did that finally seemed to make a change: went to Task Manager > Startup and found that Adobe GC Invoker Utility and Adobe Updater Startup Utility were enabled with startup impact rated "High." I did some research to verify it was ok to disable these, then disabled them. Resource usage is significantly less than Firefox.Īlso uninstalled several programs I wasn't using anymore, including Kodi, GoToMyPC, Teamspeak and Amazon Kindle app. Uninstalled Firefox, ran CCleaner, downloaded Brave instead. But the issue is resolved.)Ĭleaned my system of years' worth of old graphic design files I won't be using any more (about 60GB worth - yeah, a lot!). (Granted as one user pointed out, this could be due to potentially compromised programs due to an infection and I should also try scanning with a portable version. Ran CCleaner (free ver) which initially got rid of 4,500MB of clutter.Īttempted troubleshooting via two full virus scans (Bitdefender and Malwarebytes) but they came up clean. I reduced the number of indexed files significantly, and that cut its memory usage in half. I still don't know the particular cause for certain so I thought this info might help others:īefore writing this, I'd also noticed that the Windows Search Index was a little resource heavy. Here's a detailed, full list of what I did, between last night and this morning (in order). Update: Thanks everyone for your replies! I think I've solved the issue of programs launching slowly. ![]()
